the bum patch

How fun!

I remember when your hubby first posted about that garden and thought how awesome it was that you were beautifying your little patch of public space. I'm glad you didn't give up on it and I completely feel for the lost aloe plant. I tend to anthropomorphize much in life, which means that your story both saddens and infuriates me. Poor little plant. How dare someone just take it?! Clearly it was being cultivated...it sure wasn't growing wild...and either way it didn't 'belong' to them

As for your worms, I think you've chosen well with your new ground cover...succulents are very hardy and can come back even after a bad bad freeze...and really don't need much water. There will likely be enough other material scattered in there to keep both wormies and succulents going for several generations.

Either way, I hope you can be glad that you added something wonderful to your neighborhood for a while. As many people who may have trampled through that patch there are likely more who've had a smile of appreciation on their face when they noticed a new bud or a bit of green out of the corner of their eye. Maybe they were inspired to do the same in their own lives, and in that way your effort gets to live on even if or when your patch of green fades.

Don't lament your sensitivity either. True it makes you vulnerable to pain at even these 'little things', but I'll bet it also makes you open to moments of joy that others miss entirely.

Here is hoping that your countdown to island life is more joyful than tearful, as I'm sure it will be. :)
Wow. You are amazing. I'm so sorry to hear that people have had such little regard for it. I wouldn't have expected people to be so terrible. You really are wonderful for cleaning up that little patch and maintaining it the way you have. If only everyone took such care....
good...you bought your stuff at home depot...we need all the sales we can get...bad..the cocksucker (or cunt bitch) who dug up and stole the aloe plant...i hope whoever it is get's poisoned and spontaneously combusts...then they can use the aloe on their flesh-eating burns...as for the worms, well you gave them a nice home in the city by the bay...glow little glow worm glow!!!
Yo. Sorry to hear about the aloe plant. I'm attached to my aloe and its offspring. I know it's "just a plant," but come on. It's part of the earth. Oh wait, that's right. I forgot. Society is so broken and corrupt that, yes, even your plant will be stolen if it's not nailed down. That's one of my concerns about growing a garden. Even though it's in the back yard and fenced in, Some punk kids could still jump the fence and trample shit. And what for? Because they feel like it.

making the world a better place takes tiny steps ... wonderful little garden :))))
Bastard(s) taking your plant like that - some people really are the pits...

I'll check in on 'the patch' when I'm next in SF; have faith, I reckon it'll thrive; you are not alone in caring, so there's a good chance someone else will pick up the torch.

While we are on the subject, I realise that caring about stuff means you can get hurt, and that what I am about to say is no help __right now__ , but it's so much better to be as you are, a caring and sensitive person than be the kind of fuckwit who digs up a public-spirited aloe plant... Know what I mean..?

Big Love to you and S from your UK correspondent - *hug* :-)

argh!!!! your post just made me SO mad! who does that? seriously, who takes a plant? did they scar themselves on their walk home and realize that they desperately needed fresh aloe? it is seriously ludicrous!!!! hope you haven't lost total faith in humanity
There's a special place in hell reserved for plant stompers, aloe stealers and flower pickers. Fuckers.

Reminds me of the time that I went for a site visit to give a new business the okay to open (we have to sign off on the building matching approved plans and landscaping too) - I get out there and someone had stolen half the trees and sod!
